Shearless bifurcations in particle transport for reversed-shear tokamaks

چکیده
Some internal transport barriers in tokamaks have been related to the vicinity of extrema plasma equilibrium profiles. This effect is numerically investigated by considering guiding-center trajectories particles undergoing ExB drift motion, that electric field has a stationary nonmonotonic radial profile and an electrostatic fluctuation. In addition, configuration safety factor profile. The numerical integration equations motion yields symplectic map with shearless barriers. By changing parameters profile, appearance, breakup these curves are observed. successive recovering explained using concepts from bifurcation theory. We also present sequences associated creation multiple curves. Physical consequences scenarios discussed.

Drift wave test particle transport in reversed shear profile
Drift wave maps, area preserving maps that describe the motion of charged particles in drift waves, are derived. The maps allow the integration of particle orbits on the long time scale needed to describe transport. Calculations using the drift wave maps show that dramatic improvement in the particle confinement, in the presence of a given level and spectrum of E3B turbulence, can occur for q(r...
متن کاملTheory of Enhanced Reversed Shear Mode in Tokamaks
It is shown that toroidal magnetic field ripple induced particle flux can drive poloidal E ×B speed to bifurcate over the local maximum of the nonlinear poloidal (or parallel) viscosity. Here, E is the electric field and B is the magnetic field. This mechansim, together with the turbulence suppression due to the radial gradient of the E ×B and diamagnetic angular velocity, is employed to explai...
متن کاملNon-Twist Field Line Mappings for Tokamaks with Reversed Magnetic Shear
The structure of magnetic field lines in a tokamak with reversed magnetic shear is investigated by means of analytically derived area-preserving non-twist Poincaré maps. The basic configuration is the magnetic field produced by an ergodic limiter, superimposed to the tokamak equilibrium field in suitable coordinates. We consider the cases of one and two resonant modes, focusing on magnetic isla...
متن کاملHomoclinic Tangles, Bifurcations and Edge Stochasticity in Di- Verted Tokamaks
The boundary and pedestal region of a poloidally diverted tokamak is particularly susceptible to the onset of vacuum magnetic field stochasticity due to small non-axisymmetric resonant perturbations. Recent calculations of the separatrix topology in diverted tokamaks, when subjected to small magnetic perturbations, show the existence of complex invariant manifold structures known as homoclinic ...
متن کاملEnergetic Particle Mode Dynamics in Tokamaks
Energetic Particle Modes [1] (EPM) are strongly driven oscillations excited via wave-particle resonant interactions at the characteristic frequencies of the energetic ions [1, 2], ωtE, ωBE and/or ωdE , i.e., respectively the transit frequency for circulating particles and the bounce and precessional drift frequencies for trapped ions. A sharp transition in the plasma stability at the critical E...
